Finally watched Lion King,Yes I had managed to get till now without seeing it.
Not sure that I understand what the fuss was about, it was an ok Disney movie, but not as good as the Pixar offerings, which clearly explains why Disney bought them.
I enjoyed it, but don’t feel like that was missing anything.
So watched the Lego movie yesterday, and I sort of enjoyed it, but I wanted to enjoy it more which left it somewhat disappointing.
I think that the moment that it lost it for me was the cross over between the animated world and the live action stuff. It would have been so much better without that element.*
Although quite why Lego had to make a film to remind people that you don’t have to just follow the instructions is well beyond me.
Having said that the latest kits and the success of the company is selling movie tie in kits, were the focus is on making things exactly as they are in the instructions.
* And that is before I get hung up on my dislike of Will Farrell, who is always himself in everything he is in.
So last night I watched Die Hard, it is Christmas after all.. after that I decided to finally get round to watching the new one “A good day to die hard”..
I really wish that I hadn’t bothered, it really was quite contrived rubbish.
I had planned to dissect it and pull apart some of the really weak plot developments, but that would take too long and I can’t be bothered..
So occasionally when I am home alone I have the TV on as company while I work on my laptop..
This quite often is shows like “Police Interceptors”, they are mostly ignorable, and don’t require me to actually pay any attention.
Now I am a law respecting member of the public, and these shows should reinforce that, basically it is people getting caught for their wrong doing, and at the end they tell you the resulting punishment..
Which is where things go a bit odd for me, they catch someone who has been doing double the speed limit, carrying drugs, get involved in a chase situation, and the voice over man tells you how they were fined 100 quid or something and got three points on their driving licence.
This inevitably just makes me think, is that it?
I oddly enjoyed this film, more than I thought that I would. It is a very gentle film, the plot is predictable..
But it is beautifully shot, has some amusing one liners.
It found itself as a film.
I had a short play with it over the weekend, and it seems that following the removal of the indexing that it used to use the BBC have managed to completely kill it.
I couldn’t find anything on Google to indicate how to resuscitate it, which is a shame as I found it a very handy way of recording BBC TV so I could catch up with it later.
Just caught up with the first two episodes of Doctor Who, not sure what I thought of that.. well apart from “hand mines” that was genius..
Clearly our new bad guy rides around on one of those new mini segway things, but it is a cool effect so we will let them have that.
Otherwise it was all a bit too drawn out and lacking in story, great premise, but very little actual dilemma, which was a shame really.
H made me watch this, as I said that I hadn’t. I did remember some parts of it while it was on. It has a plot that doesn’t really go anywhere, vintage 1978 model making and layering effects and some really questionable bits of science.
But mostly it has just left me thinking but why!
How does the submersible propel itself?
Why did she have to stay behind?
Why was the monster attack so unimportant?
Just why..
Other than that it was harmless enough to watch while I was getting on with other things.
Just watched Lucy. Given Limitless was such a good film and that Lucy is a Luc Beson film, I was hopeful.
Now there is some very pretty bits, and the film doesn’t take itself seriously, but still it could have been so much more..
I don’t offen watch the adverts, which is because most of the time they just wind me up..
So there is an advert for the Citroen C1, a chap and a girl are waiting for a bus, (note the subtle message that waiting for a bus is boring and buses are a poor choice for getting around.)
Anyway, on the bus stop is an advert for the car, the chap gets bored waiting, so walks around the back of the bus stop gets in the car and drives it out of the advert and onto the road. Looks smug at the young girl at the bus shop and drives off.
From this I learned..
1) Buses are for losers.
2) The security on the Citroen C1 is rubbish, a chap just can walk up and drive it away.
3) People who drive Citroen C1’s are self centered..
But my biggest problem with the advert is that the chap, looks smugly at the girl who he has abandoned at the bus stop and drives off.. The completely selfish git.
If the bus is so late that your willing to steal a car, but your not willing to help out a fellow traveller. That is just low.
Now I understand that that the advertising company made a mistake here.. a young girl cannot get into a strangers car in an advert, that would open them up to trouble. But it wouldn’t have been hard for it to have been a couple, or in some way indicated that he was a dad, or something.
Just leaving them is low.
